Local phonology in Lansing, MI My most recent research has focused on the changing vowel systems in Lansing, Michigan as part of the IHELP/GLASS projects conducted with my advisor, Suzanne Wagner, our team in the socio lab, and in collaboration with William Labov at University of Pennsylvania, Maya Ravindranath at University of Rochester and Aaron Dinkin at University of Toronto.
Attitudes and perceptual mapping I'm also currently working with Gabriela Alfaraz in replicating and expanding Dennis Preston's research on Michiganders' attitudes and mental maps of regional dialects. We are currently analyzing maps from Latino/a respondents to examine the effect of first language and ethnic identity in the acquisition of attitudes. Other research interests - Syntactic variation and structure, I'm currently looking at inverted degree phrases as in so big (of) a mess and the dialectal expansion to the plural, so big of messes
